The Wind in the Willows
The Wind in the Willows is a classic play based off of children's literature by Kenneth Grahame, first published in 1908. Alternately slow moving and fast paced, it focuses on four anthropomorphised animal characters in a pastoral version of England. The novel is notable for its mixture of mysticism, adventure, morality, and camaraderie. This musical was unconventional and ... a flop at the time of its original release. The character of Mole was changed from a male role to a female role and a romantic involvement between Mole and Rat was devised. Also In 1930, A. A. Milne wrote a successful musical stage version called Toad of Toad Hall, which focuses on the adventures of Toad. A. A. Milne is most well-known for his Winnie-the-Pooh books.
